Important things to Consider before Plastic surgery

Plastic surgery offers tremendous benefits through a surgeon’s skill and modern technology.
It can be the perfect way to enhance your appearance, and improve self-confidence and it’s important to consider certain important factors before having plastic surgery.

To decide if plastic surgery would be right for you, it is important to consider a number of different issues before you decide.
Spending some time researching your options, discussing your concerns with a qualified Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon and considering the following five factors before you decide to have plastic surgery is highly recommended by professionals.

With regards to personal expectations, what do you expect to gain from having plastic surgery such as breast augmentation Beverly Hills patients should consider.

Always remember that surgery is never a quick fix for life’s problems.

Going into a procedure with the belief that it will dramatically change your life can lead to disappointment and frustration.
Your goal should be to have realistic expectations about what plastic surgery will truly accomplish.

In addition to personal expectations, physical and emotional health play a key role in a successful plastic surgery experience.
Before any type of plastic surgery, your overall health status will be thoroughly assessed.

For instance, before getting your breast implants Beverly Hills doctors will also consider your psychological and emotional well being.
Before you decide to have plastic surgery, think about your own physical and emotional health.
Discuss both of these important issues with your doctor in order to determine if you are a good candidate for plastic surgery.

Next, consider cost.

The total costs of a plastic surgery procedure just might be the deciding factor for many people.
While there are many different financing options for cosmetic procedures, you need to give serious thought to whether the surgery fits into your budget and your lifestyle.

Now we come to selecting your surgeon
.

In order to achieve the best possible results, it is absolutely essential to choose a plastic surgeon that is qualified, skilled and experienced.
There are many ways to find a good surgeon, including asking for referrals from area doctors and hospitals.
Check his or her qualifications and credentials with your states medical licensing board.
Making sure your surgeon is well qualified plays a major role in your decision, so always take the time to fully consider the qualifications and credentials of each potential surgeon.

Finally, give some thought regarding recovery time.

The length of time it takes to recover from a particular procedure also plays a significant role in your decision to get plastic surgery.
Each procedure, from a facelift to a tummy tuck Beverly Hills plastic surgeons tell us, can vary dramatically.
Some procedures require only a few hours of recovery time before you can return to most of your normal activities like work or school, while others can take weeks of recovery time.

Always research each procedure carefully and discuss your options with your doctor in order to make the decision that is right for your specific needs.

The ethnicity Should be Preserved on Asian american Rhinoplasty

Asian Americans comprise an increasing percentage of US plastic surgery patients as The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that the number of Asian Americans undergoing cosmetic surgery, Beverly Hills rhinoplasty in particular, continues to steadily grow.

This procedure has been one of the most commonly requested procedures among this ethnic group.

In general, Los Angeles plastic surgeons observe that Asian noses tend to have a broad bridge and a flat nasal tip curve.
The prevailing Asian rhinoplasty trends involve the changing and reshaping of these characteristic features of the nose.

Many Asian Americans are specifically interested in obtaining a higher nasal bridge through their rhinoplasty procedure.
This is accomplished by inserting a piece silicone above the natural bridge to create a nose bridge that projects farther from the face.

In some cases, plastic surgeons use cartilage grafts to build up the nasal bridge during Asian rhinoplasty.
The cartilage is from the Los Angeles rhinoplasty patient's own body and helps create a more natural look.

Keeping the nose balanced with the rest of the face is the key to a successful Asian American rhinoplasty.
The nose job should not make the tip too small or the bridge height too high for the rest of the face.

Along these same lines, it is imperative that patients and plastic surgeons not try to create an Asian nose into a Caucasian nose or any other non Asian type nose.

The ethnicity should be preserved to make the rhinoplasty as appealing and natural looking as possible.
With the expertise of an expert plastic surgeon specializing in rhinoplasty as well as popular body contouring procedures including Los Angeles tummy tuck, Asian American rhinoplasty can be a very rewarding plastic surgery procedure..

Has Courtney love Had A Stem cell facelift?

The Daily Mail is reporting that Courtney Love has undergone a stem cell facelift in the Manhattan office of a Facial Plastic Surgeon.

Photos show that she certainly looks better than she has in a long time.
But are her looks really due to a stem cell facelift?

Stem cell facelifts are definitely the future of facial plastic surgery.
The idea behind the procedure is that stem cells are removed from liposuction fat and reinjected into the face.

Because stem cells are extremely youthful cells which can transform into new cells in the location they are transplanted, they can theoretically create newer, younger looking skin.

At this time, the machines to separate stem cells from fat are not currently FDA approved for cosmetic purposes.

Therefore, the closest thing we have to a stem cell facelift in the United States is a 3-D Volumetric Facelift, a.k.a. a facelift with fat grafting.

I, along with three other prominent plastic surgeons, introduced this procedure five years ago in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
Since then, several plastic and cosmetic surgeons have introduced this procedure as their own.

Beverly hills Rhinoplasty to Nasal valve collapse

One medical condition that Beverly Hills rhinoplasty can address is nasal obstruction.
Causes of nasal obstruction generally fall into two categories:
anatomic or non-anatomic.

Nasal valve collapse is an anatomic cause of this medical condition of the nose.

According to a top local plastic surgeon Beverly Hills rhinoplasty is commonly thought of solely as a cosmetic treatment when in fact, this surgical procedure is widely sought after for correcting deviated septums as well as a number of nasal obstruction conditions that affects many people.

A person’s nasal valve is the thinnest part of the nasal airway where air passes through.

When you place both fingers on either side of your nose, you can feel the nasal valve area right where the nostrils crease inwards.
Nasal valve collapse occurs when the nasal airway’s narrowest part becomes weakened and interferes with the normal flow of air.

Reconstructive Beverly Hills rhinoplasty surgeons who are experienced in correcting nasal valve collapse use a variety of surgical techniques to restore the nasal valve and improve nasal breathing.

The most important factor to remember in selecting a technique to repair the nasal valve collapse is the actual cause of the collapse.
Once the anatomic cause is pinpointed and assessed, a strategic rhinoplasty procedure can be designed and tailored to the patient’s specific needs.

Your cosmetic surgeon will address the functional issues caused by nasal valve collapse, but should also be concerned with the aesthetic aspects of reshaping.

In searching for a doctor to repair nasal valve collapse, be prepared to research his or her background, experience, and past results.
You definitely want to choose a surgeon who has performed thousands of rhinoplasty procedures and has extensive experience correcting nasal valve collapse and other obstruction issues.

For more information on nasal valve collapse, the rhinoplasty procedure, or other cosmetic surgery procedures such as breast implants Los Angeles patients are encouraged to contact their local plastic surgeons to learn more..

Did Glee star Gets Botox to Her jawline?

US Magazine.com is reporting that future Glee star Charise may be getting Botox injections to her jawline in order to make her face look less round.

Her rep has denied it, claiming the Botox injections are for TMJ, a painful jaw disorder.
Which is right?

I would bet on the former.
I often inject Botox into the masseter muscle of the jaw to cause it to shrink down.
This procedure is often performed on Asians, who traditionally have rounder faces and jaw muscle overgrowth.

Salon.com has picked up the "Vampire Facelift" story and is reporting on it here.

Botox in a Cream Form?

Can Botox be applied as a cream?
Yes, if the company Revance Therapeutics has its way.

They are currently testing a cream form of botulinum toxin to the crow's feet.

I've heard that initial results are promising, although the product appears to be at least 2 years away from potential FDA approval.
There are a lot of questions surrounding this product, such as: Should patients be allowed to take it home?
What other applications are there?
How long will it last?

Here are my thoughts:

  1. I would be concerned with patients taking it home and mistakenly applying the cream to potentially harmful areas. What would happen if a patient applied it with his finger to his crow's feet and then accidentally rubbed his eyelid? Would he get a droopy eyelid? Maybe.
    What if someone ingested it?

  2. I think a huge application of this topical botulinum toxin is in sweat reduction.
Could you imagine an antiperspirant stick with this product that lasts several months with each application and leaves no residue? I'd buy it!

  3. It's currently being tested on the crow's feet, which has thin skin.
Would it work in the forehead where the skin is thicker?

This product could definitely be a 'game changer' if and when it comes out.
There are a lot of places I'd consider applying it 'off-label' for myself...

Understanding Laser Hair removal

Unwanted hair is common for both men and women.
For men, often this hair appears as back hair or shoulder hair.
Men can also experience painful ingrown hairs on their back and neck.

For women, hair is generally a problem is most areas including the face, neck, upper lip, chin, underarms, and bikini area.

The technology to remove and diminish the amount of hair an individual has exists, and its laser hair removal.

Before undergoing laser hair removal, one should determine if the hair growth is unusual for them.
If a sudden growth of hair occurs on the face for a woman, this may be a sign of a hormonal imbalance.
Such a hormonal imbalance may be due to an irregular menstrual cycle or hormonal changes due to medication.

If you fear your hair growth is the result of a sudden shift in your hormonal balance, you should consult your doctor.

Typically unwanted hair is either shaved, tweezed, plucked or waxed.

Repeated plucking is difficult and time consuming, making it impractical over large areas.

Aggressive plucking can also lead to skin irritation and scarring over time.
Depilatory creams and lotions are also popular, especially over larger areas.

These products work by dissolving the hair at the base of the follicle.
Often they may be problematic because they can often irritate the skin.

Waxing is among the most popular treatment for removing unwanted hair over a large area.
Waxing will only last between two and six weeks and may cause superficial abrasions to the skin.
Obviously it can be painful as well, making monthly treatments a dread.

If you have isolated and light colored hairs, Electrolysis is a good option.
Though costly and time consuming, Electrolysis is an effective method, though if done improper can cause scarring.

Be sure to visit an experienced provider if you choose Electrolysis.

The appeal of laser hair removal is the level of effectiveness and lasting effect of the treatment.

The procedure can be performed on virtually any segment of the body from legs and bikini to back and chest.

It has a mild pinching sensation during the actual treatment, however patients often comment that this pain is less than that felt during waxing.

Laser hair removal is ideal for larger areas too because the speed of the treatment allows for a larger area to be treated in one session.

Generally, after three sessions most hairs are removed.

Hair will regenerate in the treated area over time, though this can vary between six and twelve months to as many as four or five years depending on the patient.
The treated areas also tend to have fewer and thinner hair over time.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States.
Each year over $650 million is spent on the procedure.

Originally thought to totally remove hair, laser hair removal actually causes hair to lay dormant, where it cannot be seen. The process of laser hair removal has continued to improve as the laser technology has improved.

It is today by far the most widely used high-tech method for hair removal.
Laser hair removal techniques provide an extremely fast treatment time with little discomfort and less pain as compared to other hair removal methods like waxing.

It provides long-lasting effects and since lasers work on removing multiple follicles at a single time, the process is much faster than other similar techniques.

Home Laser Hair removal

Since the advent of laser hair removal companies have hoped to offer something for use inside consumers’ homes.
Unfortunately the delicate nature and highly sensitive art of lasers has made it very difficult to develop something which can be both affective and safe for use by a consumer.

However, news is out that exciting new technologies are in development and being marketed as “laser hair removal” for the home.
These new technologies are being launched by some of the premier names in laser technology.

Companies such as Spectragenics, Palomar, Radiancy, Gillette, and Phillips are getting into the development and marketing of laser/light based devices for home use.
This exciting turn of events could lead to “lasers” being used by average people within the privacy of their own homes in a matter of a few years.

Technologies not only for hair removal but also for skin rejuvenation and acne are in the works.

Some devices are already being sold to US consumers.
The No!No! by Radiancy retails for $250 and is marketed as a “Professional Hair Removal System”.
The Silk’n hair remover uses intense pulsed light technology.
It retails for $800, but comes with a life of 750 pulses.
Once the pulses run out, you must replace it with a lamp cartridge which retails for $80.

The Tria device has been cleared by the FDA for the neck down.
This device is a laser, and is therefore skin-color dependent.
In order to ensure that dark skinned people do not use the Tria, it comes with an activator which will either turn green or red depending on your skin tone.

If green, it will activate the Tria device and allow for treatment.
If red, it will lock the Tria to prevent use to safeguard the consumer.

The reason for this precaution is that patients who are darker-skinned are more complex to treat with lasers as lasers can target the melanin pigment in the skin.
This may cause damage if not properly treated by a physician.
The Tria is now selling for $995.

As these products gain wider acceptance and usage rates around the US, it is expected that the cost for these devices will decrease over time.
In addition increased competition should lower cost as new devices continue to enter the market.

Using Two Laser types to Remove Unwanted hair

Researchers have found that using two types of lasers in combination to remove unwanted leg hair offers no additional benefits and may lead to more adverse effects that using either of  the lasers alone.

For this single-center, randomized trial, which was published in the Archives of Dermatology, researchers compared the long-pulsed Nd:YAG and alexandrite lasers, individually and in combination.

It’s the first study to examine the effect of combining these two lasers in a single treatment session, rather than sequentially.

Twenty people, aged 16 to 50, were enrolled in the trial.
The medial and lateral sides of each participant’s legs were randomly assigned to receive one of these four laser treatments:

• A long-pulsed 1064-nm Nd:YAG laser (12-millimeter spot size)
• A long-pulsed 755-nanometer alexandrite laser (12-millimeter spot size)
• A long-pulsed 755-nm alexandrite laser (18-millimeter spot size)
• A combination of both lasers

Identified areas were treated for a total of 4 sessions at 8-week intervals.
Fifteen participants finished the trial. (One dropped out due to adverse side effects; the other four were lost to follow-up.).
The mean hair reduction (based on hair counting with digital photography) 18 months after the final treatment session was the following:

• 75.9% for the 12-millilmeter spot size alexandrite laser
• 84.3% for the 18-millimeter spot size alexandrite laser
• 73.6% for the Nd:YAG laser
• 77.8% for the combination therapy

The incidence of adverse effects (hyperpigmentation) and severe pain were most likely to occur in areas that received combination therapy.

“After 18 months of follow-up, alexandrite and Nd:YAG lasers were efficacious for leg hair removal,” concluded the study’s authors.
“Combination therapy did not have any additional benefit and caused more adverse effects.”
